Scarborough's Reading Rope: Amplifying Fluency for Comprehension

This 1-credit, 4-week course is entirely self-paced and can be taken anytime between October 3, 2024 - August 20, 2025.

At a Glance

Do you want to dive deeply into the Science of Reading? Participants in this course will engage deeply with strategies designed to develop both fluency and comprehension in readers. This course emphasizes explicit and systematic instruction to develop these critical reading skills. The participants will leave this course ready to implement the Science of Reading in more depth by understanding the importance of automaticity. This course will emphasize the need to design purposeful practice opportunities to be able to free up cognitive energy to think and make meaning. Students will learn specific strategies for teaching students how to become proficient readers using each fluency instruction and routines for the purpose of comprehension.
