Child and Mandatory Reporter Training

Child and Mandatory Reporter Requirements to renew Iowa Educator License:

In 2019, HF 731 modified the requirements for mandatory reporter training for child and dependent adult abuse. The Iowa Department of Human Services is providing the trainings online at no cost. The BoEE will accept the free DHS training completion certificate when you renew your license.

The training are two hours each for both child abuse and dependent adult abuse. You need to complete both. If you are at the end of your 3-year cycle, DHS has the one-hour renewal training available for both the child abuse and dependent adult abuse training modules.

• Your completion certificates will be issued through DHS.
• The new trainings are valid for three years, then you need the one-hour renewal training for both child and adult abuse.
• Once these trainings have been completed, updated refresher trainings can then be taken for one hour each as long as the trainings have not expired.
• Mandatory reporter training completed before July 1, 2019 will still be valid for five years from the date of completion.

Credit Limit: You may enroll in a maximum of 12 graduate credit hours in one semester through ISEA Academy.

Please check with your district’s policies regarding courses eligible for salary lane changes before registering for classes.
