Participants are actively engaged in collaborative activities that provide you with the opportunity to highlight your abilities as an effective and reflective practitioner in developing and applying your knowledge of your students using the National Board for Professional Teaching (NBPTS) Standards, Core Propositions, and Architecture for Accomplished Teaching. You will gather information from a variety of sources about a group of students; use assessments to effectively plan for and positively impact your students’ learning; and provide evidence of your collaboration with families and caregivers, the community, and colleagues and of your contributions to learning communities to advance students’ learning and growth.
This course will explore and provide teachers and counselors pursuing National Board Certification with important information about the certification process and specific Components. Participants will examine the newly revised NBPTS Component 4: Effective Reflective Practitioner along with Assessment Center requirements for Component 1: Knowledge. Participants learning will focus on the NBPTS Standards, evidenced by student work.
Strategies will be taught and skills enhanced that aid the participant in analyzing and reflecting on individual students’ data, generation and use of assessment data, plus participation in family partnerships and learning communities. Because the purpose of the tasks in this course are to measure your teaching practice, the overall focus is on your knowledge and skills related to gathering and using relevant information, and how successfully you apply your knowledge and skills to advance student learning. Guidance will be provided that prepares the participant for reflecting on data, assessment tools, and engagement in learning communities showing evidence in written commentary and prepare to submit. Finally, the course will guide participants as they prepare to submit their Component for National Board Certification.
