Many times, classroom climate development and relationship-building are folded into pre-service teacher program courses focused on classroom management. The course title, Classroom Management, sends the message that power is important and children need to be managed. This course will challenge participants to re-conceptualize how education views the relationship between students and staff as well as provide a framework for building relationships with students. Participants will have opportunity to work on their existing relationship systems as well as be provided with resources to develop new strategies and approaches.
Course participants will be asked to critically reflect and adapt their pedagogues as they learn, reflect and process new information through readings, activities, and discussions. This highly engaging class is designed to offer participants important information and requires meaningful application to their professional lives.
This 1-credit course is presented in a modified, self-paced format. Participants are expected to access the course and post regularly (at least once a week) and make reasonable progress, but there are no due dates attached to individual assignments to provide flexibility and to better accommodate participants’ busy schedules.
Participants are reminded NOT to WAIT UNTIL THE END OF THE COURSE TO TRY TO COMPLETE ASSIGNMENTS.
