Description of Event

Educators are struggling to help students learn the social emotional skills of self-awareness, self-management, decision making, and relationship management. The development of these competencies is compounded by a growing number of students that are exposed to traumatic stress that threatens their life or bodily integrity, and invoke intense feelings of helplessness, powerlessness, and terror. This summit will help educators to strengthen their knowledge and skill base to address severe behavior challenges in their classroom so students may acquire a broad array of skills, attitudes, character traits, and values to succeed in school, careers and life.

The Tri-State Summit extended online learning opportunity for Iowa license renewal or graduate credit will focus on how to build structures that support relationships, create school-wide cultures that encourage student voice and agency through practices, and affirm the cultural backgrounds of diverse students that schools serve.

Agenda:

I. Breakout Sessions will include 4 themes:

  1. Creating Trauma-informed environments (Foundational & Advanced sessions)
  2. Intervention & Strategies for Challenging Behaviors
  3. Equity in Education: What is it & Why it Matters
  4. Action Steps in Building the Foundation for Thriving Learning Environments
