Register to attend the ISEA & IA ASCD Virtual Conference
The Importance of Play in PreK – 3rd
Free for ISEA & IA ASCD
$25.00 for Non-Members
Before the conference, registrants will be provided access to the documentary, Chasing Childhood, which explores a phenomenon affecting kids from a broad range of socioeconomic backgrounds. Free play and independence have all but disappeared, supplanted by relentless perfectionism and record-high anxiety and depression. When kids don’t play, they don’t gain critical life skills: grit, independence, and resourcefulness.
Participants will meet the conference Keynoter, Superintendent, Dr. Michael Hynes, who is from a working-class district on Long Island, NY. He will tell his story about the struggles he had to add recess, meditation, and a longer lunch period to combat the epidemic of anxiety and behavioral issues among students. His mission is to spread the message of the importance of a holistic approach to educating children. He emphasizes the importance of play, recess in schools, mental health, yoga, and mindfulness in the classroom. He’s also a public-school advocate, TEDx speaker, and author of numerous articles on school leadership.
You will also hear from a panel of Iowa Early Childhood experts discuss research and strategies to address these issues for Iowa students. Through this workshop, you will gain strategies for creating influence and impact for powerful solutions to this early childhood problem.
Participants attending the conference will be qualified to become a member of IA ASCD at no cost.
Upon registration, participants will receive a link through their email address a few days prior to November 16th to view the documentary prior to the conference and zoom link for the conference session.
